| Bad Points: | isolated |
WOW!!! I didn’t realized places like Galgibaga beach still exist! Friend of mine told me to check out this place on my recent travels to India. I arrived at Canacona train station from Kochi and took a rickshaw to Galgibaga, 20 min ride = 100 rupees. A bit a expensive by Indian standards, but then again.. this is Goa!
Awesome drive from the train station to Galgibaga, passed this really, really narrow bridge and had to wait for a car to pass. To be honest, didn’t think it would make it! But somehow in India they always seem to fit in the tightest places!!! :)
Arrived in Galgibaga, place is isolated with only a couple of guesthouses on the road side. Stayed at Matte Shree Guesthouse, run by a bloke name Clayton, wonderful chap very helpful and lots of fun to hang out with and have a cold Kingfisher or 2!
Galgibaga beach is just spectacular! Mix of palm and pine looking trees along the beach, water is a bit rough but if you don’t swim out too far, its safe. Lifeguards on beach is as well.
A visit to Suraj beach shack for fish curry rice is essential. Don’t forget to sit in the hammock and enjoy a drink a sunset… great spot!
My Goa beach holiday to Galgibaga was impressive… Reminds me of what Goa would have been like in 60’s – 70’s!

We recently enjoyed a small vacation in Palolem beach, Goa and stayed at the Village Guesthouse - located on the old school road parallel to the main road. The guesthouse is charming, clean, comfortable, pricey but the owners Janet & Goran made up for it with their hospitality. And staying in Palolem village gave us more of that true ‘Indian experience’ compared to feeling like just another tourist on the beach.
Goran has excellent knowledge of the Palolem area and gave us a few travel tips… The best tip by far was renting a scooter bike and driving down to Galgibaga beach which is about 5 kms away from Palolem beah. Scooter bike rental 200 INR per day, ask Goran or Aniket in front of the Village Guesthouse for a bike.
The drive to Galgibaga beach is spectacular!!! From Patnem road go towards Chaudi, after the railroad bridge turn right at the first intersection and keep going. Stop on the bridge overlooking Talpona River for a few pics, and watch out for the water buffalo’s and cows on the road! Go through Talpona beach and next stop is Galgibaga beach. As you walk up the beach road there’s a lovely Christian Church to visit… not always open. The beach itself is protected Turtle Nesting area… and there’s a small info hut on the beach, a little turtle museum of sorts. Go to Suraj Restaurant on the right hand side of the beach for the best fish, curry, rice! And relax afterwards in the hammock. Suraj and his family will be happy to tell you all about the Turtles if you ask as well! Very sweet family.
