| Good Points: | just another day lost in paradise! :) |
| Bad Points: | Betalbatim, Betal or Betul beach? |
Beach names in Goa can get confusing sometimes! We were told about a very picturesque drive from Agonda to Betal beach but had trouble finding it. After passing a village called Betul, we were told the beach was at the next village. Arrived in Mobor at a ferry crossing near Mobor beach and we asked the locals where Betul beach was and told us to keep going pass Varca beach. We were almost certain the beach wasn’t that far! After a very confusing conversation, we found out that Betal beach was Betul beach! The other place they were trying to send us to was Betalbatim beach!!! Lots of beaches with similar names!!!!
After taking the ferry across, we kept driving south until we reach Mobor beach. From there we found a place to park our bike near the beach and walked until we finally reached Betul beach! Exhausted after traveling in the heat of day for 3 hours, we just flopped on the beach, took out our blanket and witnessed one of the most beautiful sunsets ever!
"From Palolem to Betal Beach"

| Good Points: | driving through villages, betal beach, Bamboo house |
| Bad Points: | keeping it a secret! |
After reading a tip in the lonely planet guide about the Blue Whale restaurant on Betal beach, we planned a day trip from Palolem beach. Scooter bike rental is about 200 rupees a day or 150 for long term. Ask for Shailesh at the Café on the beach/main crossroads.
Drive from Palolem through the surrounding beaches and villages up to Betal beach is surreal! Take the coastal road for an unforgettable experience. Rice paddy fields, jungle temples, fishing villages, local markets, and stunning views are all part of the ride!
Arrived in Betal, saw the beach as we approached but had no idea how to get there. Turns out we had to drive another 5 km or so down the road, take a ferry and come back towards Betal beach again. There’s a river that separates the village from the beach!
Was a bit hesitant at first, but the local ferry ride for about 500 meters across the river is a true Indian experience. Very charming crew!
Kept driving past a 5 star hotel close to betal beach and finally arrived at the Blue Whale restaurant. Its actually the restaurant inside a beach hut resort called Bamboo House and we had a delightful prawn curry dish for lunch.
After lunch and bike ride the next natural thing to do was to go cool off in the sea. Betal beach is quiet and blissful, only 1 other couple was there and a lonely looking lifeguard walking up and down the beach. Was a bit windy lying on the beach, but the Bamboo House has beach chairs and service from the restaurant which is very practical. What more to say? This is paradise found.. please pass it on only to those would appreciate it… don’t want to ruin it for the off the beaten track traveler… not that Lonely planet has done so already! :) :) :)
