"TOO BASIC!!"
| Date of Stay: | October 2010 |
| I am from: | Mumbai, India |
| Trip Style: | Family & Kids |
| Good Points: | Affordable, good location, good service, nice staff, very nice food, in airport proximity |
| Bad Points: | Too basic to feel comfortable, rooms almost bare, beach about 20 minutes drive away |
We were looking for a low cost hotel and we asked the taxi driver for advice. He drove us to Hotel Ashirwad and we did stay here for two days. The rooms are clean and we have nothing to complain on this account. The tariff is surely unbelievably low for Goa high season.
We shifted out not because the hotel was not good, but because we wanted more. I was looking for swimming pool and my husband wanted a good on site bar. While the food is great and they do serve alcoholic beverages, it is not the same thing. We did not feel like we were in Goa for the hotel was too bland for vacationing.
We have to say that the staff were nice and friendly and did all they could to see that we were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and well maintained and the bedsheets very decent. The rooms were air conditioned and they provided aqua-filtered water which was safe for drinking. No complaints on this front. In fact, for the tariff they charge I do not think they can give anything more and still be in business.
This is a great place for someone who is vacationing on very low budget – students, backpackers, youth travelers, and so on. For us it was a little bit of a downer. Too Basic!!

"ADEQUATE & AFFORDABLE"

| Good Points: | Tariff is unbelievably low, rooms are decent, food is homely, staff are courteous and helpful |
| Bad Points: | A little Spartan |
There are 16 rooms in this hotel and all of them are very decent – though very sparsely furnished. I was amazed that the tariff includes air conditioning. I think this is an amazing find and I have actively recommended it to all my very budget-oriented friends. After all why should you spend on accommodation when there is so much more to do with your money in Goa. The clothes in Calangute are mind blowing. You should take a walk towards the beach and stop at every shop on both sides of the road and buy clothes till you drop. Do not forget to bargain – they do give in, in the end and you will end up buying more!! Calangute is about 15 minutes away from the hotel by taxi – and about 20 minutes by bus. Buses are very good in Goa and very safe for girls.
For clothes you can also go to Mapusa – this is about 45 minutes from the hotel – but this is even better. There are export reject apparel available here which can drive you crazy. I do not think I enjoyed shopping more anywhere more than I enjoyed here in Goa.
Food in this hotel is okay. Homely stuff – we wanted something more spicy and adevnturos and the staff were superb in guiding us. We discovered that Candolim beach area has the best seafood, Calangute the best local cuisine and Baga great British outlets. Had fun sampling all the food here. Expect everything to be different. Chowmein particularly – our favorite food – is so different from what we have in Bangalore.
Overall this place is cool. Cheap and very nice. Liked it plenty!!

"Phenomenally Cheap and Nice!! "
| Date of Stay: | January 2011 |
| I am from: | Ludhiana, India |
| Trip Style: | Group of friends |
| Good Points: | Cheap, clean, friendly, cozy, near the airport, close to good restaurants and market, air conditioned rooms, warm service |
| Bad Points: | Nearest beach is about 15 minutes away drive, very basic rooms, no swimming pool |
We found this place phenomenally cheap and nice. We were a group of 12 MBA students, high on enthusiasm and low on cash. We were looking for something that offers clean rooms and very low cost. We were extremely happy to have found Hotel Ashirwad. The tariff is so low that we initially were worried whether this is indeed a good place to stay. We are coming a long way from Ludhiana and did not have much idea about Goa. When we reached, our worries increased for the place looks very modest from outside. All our apprehensions were put to rest when we saw the rooms.
Rooms were clean and very comfortable though they had the bare minimum. The staff were extremely friendly and helped us find the best way to move around – and low cost - when they realized that all of us were on a shoe string budget. We were very impressed with the service since it was obvious they were not doing it for tips or any other reason other than honestly being friendly and kind.
The food was very nice – none of us ever suffered from tummy upsets. The staff also helped us find some great eateries in Calangute and Baga. In fact, we became so friendly with all the staff that we had a very touching farewell on the day we left.
We all loved this place and recommend it whole heartedly. This is a GREAT PLACE for those who vacation on next-to-nothing budget. The staff here are amazing and they will make your stay unforgettable.

"Nice and cozy place"

| Trip Style: | Leisure |
| Good Points: | Clean and very homely place, just 5 minutes drive from Panjim, 15 minutes away from Calangute Beach, surrounded by shops and market place, homely food |
| Bad Points: | No beach within walking distance, no swimming pool |
This is small and very homely resort specially aimed at budget travelers. While it does not offer any frills, you would instantly like the clean rooms and the friendly staff that keep hovering in the background to help you out. They have a small in-house dining room (restaurant) by the name of Bhojan where they serve decent home-like food. In case you feel more adventurous you just have to step outside and choose from the many restaurants and fast-food eateries around.
Porvorim is basically a business center so there are plenty of shops and eateries, but less scope for fun Goa style. Vacationers can move to Calangute or Baga beaches which are about 15-20 minutes away from this hotel. You can also go toPanjim and enjoy the memorable cruise on Mandovi river. Panjim – the capital – is just about 5 minutes drive away.
Hotel Ashirvad is a very simple, very basic clean and budget friendly hotel. This is best for people who do not plan on staying much in the room – rather spend their money and time seeing Goa. Coming back to this homely place to sleep is quite good.
Overall a good place. Great value for money!
